Portraits

All of my portrait work is a collaboration with the person that is trusting me to take their picture. When someone opens up to have their portrait taken there is a certain vulnerability inherent with that. They are trusting me to capture them and I truly respect that trust. I have photographed people at the joyous very beginning of life, all the way up to the solemn and sacred end of life. In every situation I have been invited into someone’s life and that is an honor that I hold dear. In those moments, I am focused, quite literally, on capturing what my heart sees. My photographs are about my subjects, not about me. That is why I don’t plaster my logo all over my pictures. For instance, I love the photograph just below of beautiful Carol Maslan wearing the beautiful headdress. I took this portrait just a few years before she passed away from cancer. I had known her for 25 years, photographed two of her daughter’s weddings, and gotten to know and photograph her grand children as well. Carol and her family became part of my family. The portraits on either side of Carol were taken of high school seniors whose parents’ weddings I photographed. I absolutely love connecting the dots with people in life. It’s what makes this not a profession but a passion.
